Founded in 1851 and recognized as the oldest neighborhood in Seattle, Georgetown continues to maintain a decent number of residences and businesses. Starting out by being home to many saloons and breweries, Georgetown was further incorporated in 1904 mainly as a defense against prohibition. The neighborhood is also home to the Georgetown Brewhouse, formerly Rainier Brewing Company that began operations in 1882, and was once recognized as the sixth largest brewery in the world.
